And now Schumer has installed that pathetic lump Dick Durbin as ranking member on Judiciary. I would like to suggest Sheldon Whitehouse as a possible answer to our crisis of leadership -- the Senator who should be the top Democrat on that committee. Jen Rubin in WaPo (yeah, I'm still reading WaPo, some) had a column today about that idiotic decision:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/01/07/durbin-ranking-member-judiciary/

Jen is my favorite columnist in WaPo, but the more important link might be to Whitehouse's own speeches on right-wing capture of our judicial system:

But Whitehouse has been on my watchlist for many years now, and has yet to emerge as a recognized leader among Democrats, which is a tragedy IMHO. If this leader you (and I) are looking for isn't him, then we need to find another forthwith.

I am sick and effing tired of only having the option to choose between a hateful and corrupt party or a terminally hapless one.

Totally agree and I am a Rubin fan too and read that column. It’s really disgusting seeing Bezos censor stuff and shameful. We need to call these people out but I question what good it will do if the Dems don’t step up. Haven’t canceled WaPo yet but..

WaPo lost another valuable member of their editorial staff in the past couple days. Cartoonist Ann Telnaes has resigned after the Ed Board blocked her cartoon depicting Bezos (with others, including Tim Cook, Sam Altman, and Mickey Mouse) paying homage and presenting bags of cash to a giant idol of TFG.

I keep reading Rubin because I love her writing, but also because if and when she announces her own departure, I want to know where she moves to so I can follow.

When Obama was first elected, Mitch McConnell said the one and only policy is to prevent a second term. Why do democrats always bring a knife to a gunfight?

Knives? More like water pistols!

what about AOC. and Jasmine Crocket. They are brave and articulate. I certainly can understand the fear of showing up as an enemy of the Red Power-grabbers ... I'm not a brave person myself. But I don't have a platform anyway. I think we need the brave women in Congress to show up!

Agree: I've seen great YouTube clips of AOC verbally calling people out and taking them down. But somehow that never makes the mainstream news.
