Where Are the Democrat Attack Dogs?
Compromise is unacceptable
I am increasingly disgusted with the Democratic Party. No powerful leadership, kowtowing to Trump decisions, normalizing acceptance of outright lying and bigotry, letting unelected rich guys talk to congress as though they have a say in anything- the list goes on and on.
Democrats have power, a lot of power. Trump’s majorities in Congress are razor thin and his party is bitterly divided behind the scenes. But they are pretty good at acting as though they have a major mandate. In the face of the lying and those thin margins, a unified Democratic Party, behind a strong leader, could upset the apple cart every time the Republicans try to implement Trump’s self-serving policies.
The upcoming confirmation hearings are the perfect opportunity to tell the country about the reality of these extremist buffoons Trump wants to lead the country. Unfortunately I question who will lead a campaign like that. Chuck Schumer? He is one of my Senators and a great leader in normal times but these are not normal times. He and his colleagues are schooled in compromise, which works in something like a normal time when bipartisan negotiating was how things got done.
But that normal is the distant past. The last time we saw anything like it was when Joe Biden somehow passed important legislation early in his term. But Biden had major congressional connections on both sides and was coming off a period when the country was emerging dazed from a devastating pandemic.
Today Trump’s lawyers are trying to get Attorney General Garland to bury Jack Smith’s evidence in the now canceled January Sixth insurrection case against Trump, evidence that could prove damning to Trump’s plans to pardon those who commited violent treason in 2021.
So far Garland has shown no backbone in vigorously enforcing the rule of law and this will be a test. He should immediately release the documents and let the American public see the reality once again.
That investigation is the last remaining evidence of Trump’s involvement in that tragic day, as he has methodically crushed those who led the public investigation and plans more vengeance against those who led it. Where is the outrage in Congress?
It simply does not exist on the Democrat side. I’ve questioned the void in Democratic leadership as the alleged leaders remain silent in the face of outrageous lies and fear mongering by the incoming President and his cronies, who act more like gangsters than elected leaders.
What’s really scary is this lack of outrage and the failure of any new leader to emerge when we desperately need one. There’s a huge opportunity there but I cannot see who has the cojones to take it. There’s no Winston Churchill in the wings ready to stop this march to autocracy. If you know of one let me know- I really need to believe we have not all caved to these morons.
I want to expand on that last sentence. The people we are up against are massively incompetent and super sloppy. And they have little unity with many privately disgusted with Trump’s actions and choices. A strong political resistance could easily take most of their ‘reforms’ apart.
There are many safeguards built into the system to stop abuse, including the requirements for 60% majorities in Congress to change existing laws. But that stand needs to be made every time they try to lie their way to justifying their policies.
The prime example is Elon Musk’s and Vivek Ramaswamy’s Department of Governmental Efficiency or DOGE, a non-existent organization that claims the right to tear the government apart in the name of cost-cutting. Why are the Democrats not calling out the farce these billionaires are pushing in a naked grab for unelected power.
Musk and company exemplify the inexplicable need for more money amongst people who could never spend the money they already have. It’s not socialism to enforce existing laws that use taxation and restrictions on monopolies to limit the endless money grab.
We are already watching billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg using their unrestrained power to limit press freedom and allow extremist conspiracy theories to be treated as legitimate ‘news’ on social media.
These power grabs, accelerated by those riches, are moving fast because they know their time may be limited if the Democrats somehow find a backbone and start hitting back aggressively. Unfortunately I cannot see any Democrat willing to step up and fight back, an actual leader.
Instead the silence and willingness to compromise are stunning and shameful. But the opportunity for a leader to emerge is upon us with the nomination hearings in just days ahead. The question is, will we see any kind of real resistance?
I’d say, unleash the hounds, except they look more like lapdogs to this writer.

You are spot on!! This is a crisis
what about AOC. and Jasmine Crocket. They are brave and articulate. I certainly can understand the fear of showing up as an enemy of the Red Power-grabbers ... I'm not a brave person myself. But I don't have a platform anyway. I think we need the brave women in Congress to show up!
