It is just as scary watching this all unfold from overseas, namely Australia. Over here we used to respect the American hunger for liberty, freedom, democracy and even the role of the World's Policeman, as the last surviving superpower. In other words all the good things that other countries were not able to enforce, the US would be our "hero". What is unfolding now, is a major disappointment, has partially destroyed my faith in the good of mankind, big time. How millions of "zombies" cant see what is playing out and can seriously follow someone who just doesnt offer the tiniest shred of good to humanity, is a complete mystery to me. And I am sorry to say, Trump is not alone, but has a collection of (bordering on) evil clowns doing his bidding, motivated solely by greed. We can see it from all the way over here. Give me a break! Being a Christian, it is getting to the point of praying and believing in that phrase "In God we Trust". There is no other way left. Which reminds me, how can evangelicals in America, possibly follow such a prolific sinner? I don't get it, but as you have said Martin, the disease has taken hold in a big way in USA. It is heading in a terminal direction at this moment.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t say to myself “WHAT THE HELL” yet like millions of Americans I don’t know what to do about it. I sit here silently. I live in a small cul de sac of nine homes when I moved here I bragged how lucky we were to have such great neighbors, we came to love them then came Trump. I can’t even go out to get my mail without one of them screaming at me “Biden just F### us again” I’ve been told that I have no right to hang a American Flag in my yard this is all from one sentence I said after January 6 th that yes I’m a Republican that I had voted Biden” from there on I’ve been shunned. My point to this is that I feel that my own community is my responsibility if I can’t find the words to change my own back yard what the hell can I do for the rest of this country? I have started to see that every thing I believe and loved aboutAmerica never really existed .
This is what you get when a major source of news i(Fox) s permitted to lie about anything and everything and have a devoted group of viewers. You also have oligarch-funded podcasters and social media owners dedicated to making money off disinformation. It's just capitalism--may the loudest voices win--because that's what America is all about- the sport.
Thank you for clearly presenting all of this info. It is insidious. I am afraid there is NOTHING that will break this spell. I thought that people dying (from Covid, at the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021) would FINALLY make people see the light. If those things can't change people's minds, I'm not sure what can. I hope on Election Day, more people come to their senses--and come out of the woodwork--to vote and re-elect President Biden.
“Every civilization carries the seeds of its own destruction, and the same cycle shows in all of them. A Republic is born, flourishes, decays into plutocracy, and is capture by the shoemaker whom the mercenaries and millionaires make into a king.” — Mark Twain
History repeats itself. The Republican party is History. And so is our country.
