The stock market jump makes perfect sense in some ways, actually - the people who own those companies have a window to raise prices before the tariffs even get imposed. It'll be small, almost unnoticeable. $.25 here, $.50 there, $5 on that really expensive thing. But before their profit margins get cut, they're gonna make BANK the next ten weeks by passing the cost on to us before the conditions even warrant it. The stock market jumped because it's a bet on massive short-term profits.
You nailed it! You are spot on, as usual. We don't have to like it, but we certainly do live in interesting times.
Perhaps it might be helpful to remind ourselves that by simply observing and not becoming attached to the outcome, we can find peace amidst the chaos. After all, there are big forces at work that are well beyond our personal control. (The serenity prayer may cone to mind.)
The voting machines were the still the same ones Faux News was sued over, yes? And still no one can look at their software? ( These are not hypothetical questions. ) If so, was that $400million+ payout by Faux News just the price of entry to being the official mouthpiece of the coming New Regime?
I suppose I could go research all the details again, but I checked out somewhat in recent months. Can anyone here answer these questions with some facts? I'd really appreciate it.
Because I am having a very very hard time convincing myself that he really won the popular AND electoral votes.
Totally! My husband & I are of the same mind. The fact that everything all went the repubs way (even the 6 week abortion ban in FL!) is highly suspect. But the popular vote is the most bizarre.
It's just so hard to fathom that so many men & women can accept the total disrespect trump Vance & the repub party showed to Kamala. Who wants that in a government?
I have yet to read anything on what happened to the missing 15 million votes. All the reports are on record turnout and long lines, but somehow the total vote count is down nearly 10%. WTF?
A minor point but being a "draft dodger" is not particularly pejorative in my opinion, in the context of the Vietnam War. Also. it's quite probable that the administration has been so spineless with Netanyahu for fear of alienating donors and losing the election. Wasn't it Sartre who said something like always do the right thing because we can't know the future, And yet I/we constantly assume we can. Wasn't that the reasoning behind preventing Bernie from getting an equal chance at being the candidate in 2016?
... hey -- time to WAKE UP!! ... the womenen (intentional) voted OVERWHELMINGLY for the rapist/misogynist/abuser ... and his ENTIRE FUCKIN' AGENDA!! ... and (apparently) knew what they were going to get 🤣
... old saying -- "... it's all over but the cryin' ...😢"
... let 'em cry -- I'm completely uninterested in people who refuse to defend their own rights/autonomy (with whatever tools fall to their hands).

Nice work, Martin. This is more insightful than anything I've read on Slate, Vox, etc.
Thanks Ken. This bro thing has been in the back of my mind since he picked Vance. No one seems to have picked up on it. M

Spot on as usual. But how bad could things get? Economist Umair Haque explains it all here and you want want to be sitting down for the read:

I predict a US version of Brexit with a little (or alot) grift. We saw how that turned out.
I see this plan going back to Nixon and the gutting of education
