Hey Martin - I normally don't comment a lot (on anyone's stack) but I do read a lot. Your post today struck a chord of similarity with me, however. I wrote about my journey in a Memoir here on Substack to document how my alcohol problem started, how it was exponentially increased and perpetuated during my many "drunken sailor" years in the Navy, and how It was finally and permanently dealt with a little over 42 years ago.

While we differ in a few things on the political side of things, the alcohol addiction is something in which we have a lot of common ground and I can wholehearted relate. Here is a link to the short memoir if you (or anyone else) care to read of a similar experience and possible solution: https://corkhutson.substack.com/p/coming-home-a-memoir. Thanks sis. Weird as it seems, we haven’t seen each other since this went down. Have to change that! M

We're all proud of you, bro. Alcohol is a tricky friend. It can be fun to be with. It can be relaxing to be with. But it can also sneakily start to rule your life, set limits on your life, and sometimes ruin it. Enjoy this new season in your life. Fall is a time for shedding old dead things in preparation for new growth.

It's difficult to say, but I am persuaded to believe that your unmasked sharing of personal experience has been very helpful to some of your readers. Our intrinsic desire is to have made a difference and it is fair to say you have done so. Thank you.

Bravo!!!! Each of us has our own addictions, dragons, and whatever else it is keeping us from being where we want to be. I admire you so much--just know that my class and I are sending love, light, and courage to you and for several of my students, they were able to see the courage it takes to face a problem.
