Gone to the Dogs (and Cats)
Republican policy wonk is a badass, in his own mind
Woof. The author of the Project 2025 manifesto of right wing dreamy chaos bragged about killing his neighbor’s dog with a shovel.
Ok, pause for a second. How much aholeness can we take from these guys? And what’s with the dog thing, not to mention cats? A red state governor writes in her biography (yes, for posterity) that she shot her dog because she didn’t like his attitude.
And then JD Vance tells us immigrant Haitians in Springfield, Ohio are eating pets, starting with a cat but dogs too. Disclaimer: the cat was found just fine, in the owner’s basement.
Just for the record, these Haitian refugees were here legally and had been invited by the town of Springfield to fill vacant jobs and help revitalize the economy, all good things.
Why would they eat cats and dogs?
Now, in the latest unbelievably stupid twist in this election news, we learn that the author of Project 2025, the right’s plan to destroy democracy and make Trump a dictator, is a guy who brags about killing his neighbor’s dog with a shovel.
I’m sorry, but what? The Haitians in Ohio are not eating pets. And the childless cat ladies still have a say in how we run this land. And what the hell is the Republican Party doing, besides bragging about killing pets?
For a moment I want you to think about what you would think about a guy who brags about killing his neighbor’s dog with a shovel. Do you want that guy writing policies that could determine the future of the country?
Or a candidate who accuses immigrants of eating pets, with no proof, in front of 67 million Americans? How about his running mate, who has a thing about childless women with cats?
Are you serious? Is this what a political dialog has descended to? Is that too much of an elitist Northeasterner question? Well, I’m a poor writer living in a lovely western NY city who likes both cats and dogs and is bewildered by whatever the hell is going on over there in TrumpLand.
We are about a month from deciding who will run this country for the next four years. And who will possibly stop a major war in the Middle East. And who will finally have to deal with the biggest problem we face today, climate change. Somebody advised by a guy who kills dogs and who accuses people of eating them?
My only reason for writing is to possibly get someone out there to pull back and realize how absolutely insane this all is and to wake up. Just do it for the dogs (and the cat people). Btw, if your cat is missing, check the basement before posting on social media that an immigrant stole it for lunch.
(Note: it’s hard not to write this stuff when things are this far off the wall. But I need to point out that all of this stuff is happening on the Republican side. Harris, Walz, and the Democrats are running a civil and disciplined campaign that is scandal free and noticeably lacking in this kind of horseshit.)

Martin, Do you really drink that much coffee?
You claim “the guy who wrote Project 2025,” implying authorship of that scabrous catalog and jaw-dropping preview of what’s in store for the country should a 2nd tRump administration become a reality next January, is the work of merely one right-wing ideological dingbat. Isn’t it more like 80+ individuals who jointly contributed to that steaming pile of Un-American bullsh*t?! There’s close to 900 pages in all, amirite? Most of those pages delineating the MAGA dream of shutting down the IRS, the FBI, firing all the legacy Civil Service employees in ‘the Deep State’ and replacing them with ‘Loyalists’....solidifying control in the Executive branch, etc. were written by persons who were tRump associates, former White House advisers, employees, and administration officials. Naturally, TFG says has tried to put huge distance between himself and that odious document the way he always does when confronted with unpleasant realities that clearly implicate him in scandals that in ‘Normal Times’ (i.e. prior to 2015) would ruin a traditional public figure.
