A New Level of Disgusting: I’m Getting Angry
And you should too
Yesterday a Fox News host, Jesse Watters, attacking Kamala Harris, said the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Military would ‘have their way with her’ when they brief her.
That’s right, a rape joke.
Then he tried to deny that it was intended in a sexual way. Excuse me, but this is beyond the beyond. It is simply disgusting and apparently this is the best they have. How many times do these people have to prove they hate and fear women? And how weak are they?
We’re still 70+ days out from the actual election and the vitriol from the right is completely out in the open with hate, misogyny, racism, and constant fear mongering totally acceptable, in their world. But not in mine, and it should not be in yours.
You should be pissed as hell at this crap. We all should be. Do you want to hear this every day for the next ten weeks?
Meanwhile, Donald Trump stands in front of the National Guard Association and gives a speech in which no sentence is complete and there is nothing there resembling reality, and somehow no one is questioning his qualifications to be a Presidential candidate? This is a man who got five deferments from military service because of bone spurs, though no one has seen any medical proof of their existence.
And a man who repeatedly insults our military for getting captured or shot in the line of duty. And who stated that a civilian award given to the widow of a major donor was far more honorable that a Medal of Honor, our country’s highest military honor, because most awardees were ‘very weak from being shot’.
I don’t know about you, but this stuff isn’t just irritating, it’s making me angry, and I’m not an angry man. Trump and his supporters are openly insulting decency, civility, and common sense, over and over again, and somehow he still has a cadre of idiots worshiping him.
Because I write about politics, I read a lot of news, commentary, and yes, this stuff from the right, and I want to tell you that sometimes it makes me want to puke, and then go join a monastery somewhere. That’s how bad this has gotten.
These people talk about patriotism, but how is constant hate and disgusting attacks on fellow citizens, patriotism? What we are seeing is a disease that has infected the Republican Party, causing them to do and say things that were never acceptable in a civilized society.
The really scary thing about this disease is that it was lying dormant in a large segment of our population until a man with a giant ego came along and gave it permission to come out in the open.
I don’t have a lot of fears. But one is that even after Donald Trump is gone, this infection will continue to feel empowered to pretend it is normal and acceptable. That might be the long term effects of allowing this disgusting behavior to continue as a somehow ‘normal’ way to practice democracy.
That’s not democracy, it’s autocracy, autocracy based on hate and fear. Is that what we want? Is that what you want?

Like, I think many people, I’m trying to hang on to the brief surge of positivity from the DNC and the Harris rise to power. I know it was an illusion built on emotion and longing with no substance but we never expected to have even that.
Joe Biden was not so much old as of the old. And that has been dead for forty years but we’ve kept the carcass frozen. Obama kept the illusion going for eight years by oratory.
