The Mass Deportation Scam That’s Coming
The centerpiece of Trump policy is going to be a huge mess
The only way we round up 11 million immigrants and send them back to wherever they came from is to form a massive police state. The only problem is that police work for cities and states, not the federal government. And if the Trump administration thinks they can use the military, they may have a rebellion on their hands at the Pentagon.
Right now there are states like Nevada and California that are largely dependent on illegals to clean their hotels and casinos and pick their crops. And a lot of the other dirty work of business and society. Those businesses have a lot of clout and money and they will not be happy about losing that workforce . It looks like this huge undertaking promised over and over again by Trump may just be another of his scams.
There has been no explanation or real plans for implementing this thing or paying for it. And the price tag is going to be sky high. One estimate guesses that deporting just one million people could cost tens of billions. It’s easy to say you’re going to do that but a lot harder to actually pull it off. And if they try, the American people are going to witness things that will make a lot of people sick to their stomachs.
It was bad enough last time when we saw children separated from their parents and locked in cages. And this time around those children may actually be American citizens because they were born here and have birthright citizenship.
There is talk of banning birthright citizenship, which is enshrined in the Constitution, but they would have to make that ban retroactive to solve the problem they face and that could mean any of us could have our citizenship revoked. I’ll bet that would be popular.
The point here is that these people are all talk and that talk was designed to get him elected, not to realistically get rid of a huge segment of the population. My guess is that they will start and then wildly inflate the numbers while downplaying the cost, Trump’s usual way of working.
Remember the wall? All hat and no cattle. And Infrastructure Week? And that concept of a plan for healthcare? The great fixer talks about fixing things but never actually does it. A fact that his supporters conveniently forgot last week when they re-elected him, telling themselves life was so much better last time around.
Except for the estimated 100,000 people who died of Covid while he desperately tried to hide how bad it was, to protect his ability to get re-elected. The Democrats had all that ammunition to refute his claims of greatness but they never used it. More about that in a minute.
I live next to a posh hotel and everyday I see the cleaning staff coming and going. They appear to mostly be Muslim women based on their headscarves and burkas. Are they all legal? Probably but why would I care? They work hard, pay taxes, which do not benefit them if they are illegal, despite the claims of Mr Trump.
I know the owner of the hotel and I doubt he is too concerned about the personal backgrounds of his staff as long as they do a good job. But maybe I’m wrong and we won’t miss those hard workers Trump is going to send back to hellholes, to use his own language.
I’ve been thinking a lot the past few days about the Democrats’ communications strategy and my conclusion is that they didn’t have one. A simple lesson in recent history and the actual facts would have been a good start, rather than talking points, the bane of DC thinking.
Trump told people what they wanted to hear. But he no longer needs to back up his bombastic claims of being the savior of the world and fixing things in one day. He has a four year pass on that and is unlikely to live through it. Unfortunately if that is reality, that reality is going to be just as bad. And the illegals will still be grooming his golf courses and washing the dishes.
Democrats, and traditional Republicans need to get mad and do something, now. We have a window in history to stop this thing in its tracks but that window is exceedingly narrow and receding. If the Senate confirms the insulting choices Trump has made to run this country, it will be the end of democracy as we know it.
Claims like his mission to deport millions, even if they are legal citizens, are hollow. But he is in there and won legitimately, it seems. And he seems determined to stick it to the suckers who voted for him. After all, what does he have to lose? The scariest thing about narcissists is they have no skin in the game. All they really want is attention and that is why he is nominating idiots.
You see, narcissists don’t care if the attention is negative or positive. Let that sink in, because it’s our reality.
We are starting to see the granular data from the election returns. And the most interesting thing I’ve heard is that there were quite a few voters who only went to their polling place to vote for Trump, but did not bother to even fill in the rest of the ballot.
That is the definition of willful ignorance and laziness, but it could mean a path to stopping at least some of this dangerous nonsense, if the Senate does their job. If.
