Any Normal Person…
Would tell you RFK Jr is not right in the head
I’m starting to think this entire thing in DC is just Trump’s deranged mind telling us we suck at being responsible citizens. But then that would imply he actually cares. This past week we have seen how a massive ego can give the finger to a nation and populate our leadership with a bunch of people piling out of their clown car and pretending they know what they are doing.
If I searched all the people I’ve known in this life I could not come up with a Cabinet as bonkers as this one we are watching take form. It’s a Friday morning, I have not yet scanned the news, but at this point nothing would surprise me. At least I hope Trump has run out of nut cases to put in power, but he probably has a few more in his pocket.
This year has seen a lot of bizarre politics to say the least. But in the days since the election we are witnessing the downfall of democracy and its replacement with a giant ego surrounded by a bunch of paranoid conspiracy theorists.
Unfortunately, what these people believe is extremely dangerous, if they are given power by the Senate, and I have no faith the Senate will do the right thing and stand up to a man who is openly scoffing at their authority with his choices, in just the first ten days of being in power.
Advise and consent is the mantra of the Senate and it represents the true power in Washington, if it is used. And if it is not, right now, we will be watching the dissolution of everything this country stands for. No exaggeration.
In Ancient Rome, when the people were restless, the government would give them bread and circuses to distract them so that government could keep on serving themselves. Satisfy the basic needs, food and entertainment, and the peasants will be silenced.
If the Senate confirms this group of lunatics to ‘serve’ the country they will be complicit in destroying the very fabric of this nation. And, by the way, their own ability to rein in the man who would destroy it. It’s very possible we are watching how fast progress can be undone by one man when he has the support of power hungry politicians.
Those politicians are living with the myth that Donald Trump has loyalty to anyone. He does not reward loyalty, he mocks it. What he does reward is people who are willing to give up any sense of self in obedience to him. If that sounds far fetched, you are not paying attention.
RFK Jr is a man who was desperate for the limelight. He needed it and has constantly said and done anything to get it. Lives do not matter to this man and now he could be in charge of all of our lives. And he is not alone. All of the people Trump is nominating to lead this nation share Kennedy’s need to be in the limelight.
But they are going to be sorely disappointed. A narcissist does not share that light, ever. Look at his first term. It was a revolving door in the White House as competent people tried to do their jobs and Trump’s ego said no. His vaunted record in office is hollow, all smoke and mirrors, and voters with short memories bought the scam. And now we will all live with it.
This past week is the proof and just the beginning.
Here’s what I am watching: the Senate’s response to Trump asking for recess appointments. If you do not know what this means, it is a pretend exercise where a president gets to make appointments without confirmation while the Senate is away. The ultimate get out of jail free pass.
If they go along with this we are not just in serious trouble, it is over. I have to believe there are enough reasonable people in the Senate to stop this from happening because it would put Congress out of business. But after this election I question what ‘reasonable people’ means. Will leaders in our government pretend that Trump’s judgment is sound, as they have for the past eight years?
This is the emperor’s new clothes test and so far we are failing it and cheering on a naked old man. And we are about to see if our elected officials have any respect for the Constitution left.
I wish I knew the answer to that. It should be obvious, but…

Sadly, you've properly summed up what I'm thinking and feeling after the shit show that was this week.
